Review: Strange Fruit, Volume II: More Uncelebrated Narratives from Black History

Strange Fruit, Volume II: More Uncelebrated Narratives from Black History Strange Fruit, Volume II: More Uncelebrated Narratives from Black History by Joel Christian Gill
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. I have recently become a fan of comics and enjoyed learning about black history through comics. This book highlighted unsung heros of black history that are not well known. I can’t wait to purchase this book and share it with my nephews. It is a great and easy way to teach black history to young people.

I received a DRC of this book courtesy of NetGalley. #28daysarenotenough #NetGalley

This book captivated me at the first sentence! I read it in less than 24 hours. I enjoyed the many twists and turns that took place as the Lovejoys navigated their lives and their relationship. Excellent read!

Julia Dweck has a new book out titled, "Where Are the Dinos?" It is already the #1 Hot New Release in children's color picture books on Amazon.

This is a cute little book that asks the question any little boy may ask when visiting the zoo...Where are the dinosaurs? I really liked this book. The story and illustrations were wonderful. I can't wait to show it to my little nephew. You should purchase this book right now. Here's the link:

Review: Beewitched

Beewitched by Julia Dweck

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a really cute book. I enjoyed the story and the bright, colorful illustrations. This is a great book for kids showing them how they should like themselves just the way they are. They should never want to be something they are not.

My Invented Life #MyInventedLifeTour

Book Description

September 29, 2009
With Roz and Eva everything becomes a contest—who can snag the best role in the school play, have the cutest boyfriend, pull off the craziest prank. Still, they’re as close as sisters can be. Until Eva deletes Roz from her life like so much junk e-mail for no reason that Roz understands. Now Eva hangs out with the annoyingly petite cheerleaders, and Roz fantasizes about slipping bovine growth hormone into their Gatorade.
Roz has a suspicion about Eva. In turn, Eva taunts Roz with a dare, which leads to an act of total insanity. Drama geeks clamor for attention, Shakespearean insults fly, and Roz steals the show in Lauren Bjorkman’s hilarious debut novel.

This book was pretty good.  It tells the story of two sisters whose relationship falls apart all of a sudden.  The younger sister is on a mission to find out why.  On her quest for answers, she must also tackle other issues that teenagers deal with.

This was a quick and easy read.  I enjoyed getting to know each of the characters. I read this book in a day and a half.  I was eager to find out what would happen next.  I, like Roz, wanted to know why she and Eva were no longer as close as they use to be.  As I continued reading, I was able to guess the reason before Roz could, but it was still exciting to read and find out that I was right.  This is the second book I have read by this author and I am becoming a fan of her work.

I grew up on a sailboat, sharing the tiny forecastle with my sister and the sail bags. Against all odds, we are still friends. We started sailing in California and ended in Argentina. My favorite stops along the way were Costa Rica, Panama, Isla Providencia, Key West, the Azores, the Canary Islands, and Brazil.

During our voyages, my sister drew beautiful paper dolls for the both of us.  We sewed amazing wardrobes for our stuffed animals. We became excellent swimmers and beach combers. We made up new lyrics for old songs. Canned food dominated our meals on crossings, so we really appreciated fresh fruit when we came into port. I dreamed of ice cream on the open ocean.

We kept up with school through a program called Calvert out of Maryland.

My dad read to us at night by the light of a kerosene lamp. Since then, I've always loved stories and wanted to write my own.

I live in Taos, New Mexico with my husband, and two sons. We often see coyotes outside our window.

How far would you go to save everything you ever loved?

Kaliel was warned about her love for the Ferryman. One day he will marry the land and leave Avristar forever. She doesn't listen, and because of what she is-- a Flame-- one of nine apocalyptic weapons, she sparks a war. In a desperate attempt to save her home and her love, Kaliel tries to awaken Avred, not knowing she may have to make the ultimate sacrifice.

I was never a normal girl. My life was an urban fantasy wrapped in a paranormal romance and served with a side of horror. To escape my everyday weirdness I began writing fantasy. I studied at U of Sedona and MIMT, obtaining a PhD in Metaphysical Science and Parapsychology. I'm married to a chef/comic book shop owner and I have a fondness for architecture. I frequent twitter and facebook, but if you really want to get to know me you should visit my site:
